Objectives : Pattern recognition systems and decision systems are in use today for a large amount of practical applications (medical diagnosis, defect detection , biometry, speech and character recognition).

These systems are based on machine learning techniques which consist in learning the decision process (function, grammar, model,...) through observed data.


With the advent of computers and data collections, databases may be now very large and include both structured data (such as in classifical databases) and

semi-structured data (such as in text, image and videos). Data-mining techniques aim at analysing and processing such large databases, including

techniques for data organization and vizualization, the detection of irregularities, novelties and anomalies, and for knowlegde extraction.


The machine Learning and data mining course will provide theoretical and practical insights into these techniques.
